Location: Blaine Senior Community Center

  • Membership Renewals
  • The Wave Update
  • Kim Morris – Presentation

Meeting Activities

Members Present: 23 members in attendance; 2 new members from last month, and one guest.

President Kay Dee Powell called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Minutes were approved by Marilyn Muhlbach and seconded by Lyn Rackley.

Membership Renewals

Christy Schroeder-Lloyd shared how to renew memberships online and complete artist profiles on our website. She handed out a paper with details for both. Some have experienced difficulties, but they will be resolved.

The WAVE Update

Kay Dee gave high praise to Diane Butts for organizing The WAVE. She mentioned the beautiful banner across H Street and shared The Northern Light’s ad with the group. She encouraged people to buy tickets online before the Opening Night. 64 tickets have been purchased so far.

Regarding the Opening Night, in addition to beautiful presentations by the artists, there will be at least 18 silent auction items available for bidding.

A fun part of the evening will be the wine pull where people will buy a numbered cork for $25 and exchange it for a beautifully disguised bottle of wine with the same number. There are eight bottles valued at $50+ and two at $90, so win-win-jackpot!

Deb Freeman has agreed to pick up our food trays and deliver them on August 25th.

A sheet was passed around for signups as volunteers are needed for two dates:

  • August 23rd at 4:30 to help transport balloons from the Dollar Tree to the Senior Center
  • August 26-27 to greet people and have them sign our guest sheets at the Boating Center and Pavilion.

Presentation by Kim Morris

Kim shared her delightful background and her inspiration for art, the forest and the sea. She is a

gifted  self-taught artist, proficient in drawing, watercolor, silk screen, block printing, acrylic, clay, wood, pen and  ink and she does this because she must (she calls it an art disease), not for sales or business but for her  own fulfillment. She sculpted and created 140 tiny bears, designed and dressed for different professions.She’s painted large murals and has built a bird house complete with furniture and a fireplace. Kim’s  penchant for collecting driftwood may be unparalleled, and her enthusiastic presentation was enjoyed byall.

Barb Davis-Pyles was recognized for doing a book talk at the library on her latest book Nobody Likes Frogs and her donations to BAC and the school.

In last month’s presentation, Lyn Rackley demonstrated how she begins a painting with sketches and

layering watercolors. She brought her completed Sunflower painting to share.

After the meeting Jesse and Rachel Hughs and Christy Schroeder-Lloyd tutored a small group in learning how to use the Square for credit card sales.
